An Afternoon and An Evening with Helen Russell

Scots on The Rocks was very fortunate to have Helen Russell from the UK for their Afternoon Workshop and Evening Social at Marrickville Town Hall on 24 May. After a successful introduction of the format last year SoTR was keen to run the Afternoon/Evening event again. As with last year music for both the workshop and social was provided by Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt.

The Afternoon Workshop saw over 40 participants, some who had never been to a workshop, enjoy Helen’s teaching covering key points in Scottish Country Dancing in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The table d’hôte evening meal allowed for dancers who were not able to stay on for the social enjoy a selection of food and socialise with other dancers. A number of dancers who were only able to come for the social joined in and it was good to see that dancers took the time to meet new people, enjoy a well-earned break and compare notes.

The Evening Social saw dancers enjoy Helen’s programme with a number of encores including what is fast becoming a favourite – the five couple version of Macdonald of the Isles aka Big Mac.

SoTR would like to thank the many people who travelled – both from the various Sydney clubs and the Southern Highlands, Gosford, Coffs Harbour, Newcastle and Melbourne.
